Before IV Sedation / General Anesthesia

- Do NOT eat or drink anything (including water) for at least 8 hours before your surgery, except any medications as directed by your surgeon. This includes gum, hard candy, mints, chewing tobacco, or anything else you can put into your mouth. If you DO NOT follow this we will not do IV sedation.
- Wear a short sleeve shirt, loose comfortable clothing and supportive shoes.
- Have an able-bodied responsible adult accompany you to the appointment, remain at the office to hear post-op instructions, and drive you home afterward. Plan to have a responsible adult monitor your recovery at home for the first 24 hours after surgery. For minors under the age of 18, the adult must be a custodial parent or legal guardian. If you plan on using a taxi/Uber someone still needs to accompany you; you may not leave alone.
- Wear light or no makeup and remove all nail polish.
- Do not wear contact lenses; wear glasses if you have them.
- Leave all valuables at home, including jewelry. If you have lip/tongue/nose piercings they must all be removed prior to surgery.
- Cell phone should be left with your ride or powered off during surgery. NO PHOTOS or FILMING IN OFFICE.
- Bring your inhaler if you have one.
- NO ALCOHOL or SMOKING for at least 24 hours before your surgery.
- NO MARIJUANA or RECREATIONAL DRUGS for at least 72 hours before your surgery.
- If you take weight loss medications listed below they must be stopped 1 week before your surgery due to their effect of delayed gastric emptying – Semaglutide: Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus. Liraglutide: Saxenda, Victoza. Tirzepatide: Mounjaro, Zepbound. Dulaglutide: Trulicity.
- If you have an illness such as a fever, cold, cough, sore throat, upset stomach or upset bowels, please notify the office.
- You should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following anesthesia.
